New Years Health Kick

January is the time for new years resolutions and I’m sure I am not the only one with uber good intentions for healthy eating, exercise and cutting down on the vino!  Especially if you are getting married in 2011, you probably are trying to trim down to look your best on your big day.  There are loads of great ways you can start your health kick!

Join a gym/DIY fitness. Loads of gyms are doing special offers in January, so now is a great time to get in with them.  If you can go it alone or can’t afford the gym, you can follow our step-by-step wedding fitness guide (for Brides AND Grooms) with helpful videos to teach you the exercises.

Hire a personal trainer. I did this myself last year, in the 6 weeks leading up to my cousins wedding and while expensive, I have to say I saw great results.  If you are not very self motivated, having a personal trainer is a great way to get into exercise and stop kidding yourself that you are going to go to the gym every day after work!

Eat Better. Channel4 have some great healthy eating receipes and are promoting the “Big Fish Fight” at the moment with such celebrity chefs like Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey making shows dedicated to fish.  Fish is a great way to eat healthily so check out  Jamie Oliver’s new show “Fish Suppers”, where he offers ten delicious and easy new recipes for fish.  Watch on 4OD here or view the recipes >>

Sleep More, Drink More Water.  We’ve all heard it a million times before, but seriously there is a reason they are clichés!!  Try and start going to bed 30 mins earlier and ease into sleep with a book and turn off your phone so you are not disturbed while trying to hit the hay.  Keep a 1 litre bottle of water on your desk in the office and try to get through it while you are at work.  That will go along way to help you get to your recommended intake of 2 litres of fluids daily!

In saying all that, please do be reasonable people – no starving yourself trying to fit into a size 6 when you are usually a 10/12!  You will end up looking gaunt and exhausted for your wedding and will be so stressed trying to get down to that “ideal weight”.  Make sure you take a healthy approach to slimming down and do it gradually over time.

Good luck!
